World Meteorological Day in Georgia

Mr. Goga Khchidze, Minister of Environment Protection of Georgia visited the staff members of National Environmental Agency and congratulated a professional day - World Meteorological Day to the meteorologists.
The Minister of Environment Protection awarded the meteorologists and later he looked round the laboratories equipped with modern technologies of world standards. About 1500 kinds of analysis for atmosphere air, rivers, lakes, soil and atmosphere precipitations are made in these laboratories.
"I would like to congratulate our staff and the World Meteorology Day to thank them for their successfully fulfilled work. Everybody should know that the bases of any information about weather in Georgia that people receive from local as well as international sources are prepared in our services. This is the only network of weather forecasting which covers the whole country in fact," said Mr. Goga Khachidze.
The International Meteorological Organization became the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on March 23, 1950. It became the UN"s specialized agency for meteorology, operational hydrology and related geophysical sciences in 1951. World Meteorological Day is celebrated every year all over the world. Every year the worldwide meteorological community celebrates this day around a chosen theme. This year, the main topic is "Climate for You." Many different activities and events are organized for this occasion in the world.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has 189 Members. Georgia joined the convention in 1993. WMO plays a crucial role in contributing to people"s safety and welfare. Its work is important in providing food security, water resources and transport.
The hydrometeorology service in Georgia was established on the basis of Tbilisi Magnetic-Geophysics Observatory in 1844. It was established as a sub-agency organization of the Ministry of Environment Protection in 2004.
