Sphere of Compentence of Department of Geological Hazards and Geological Environment Management
Assessment and identification of negative outcomes, risk assessment, preparation of recommendations, for population living in the emergency conditions and preparation of relevant conclusions for immediate measures, in case of geological processes’ extreme activation in the settlements.
Permanent monitoring over hazardous geological processes and anthropogenic changes of geological environment, on the territory of Georgia, at all hierarchical levels, from control parameters of the observation to forecasting; Preparation of annual information bulletins, regarding expected risks and necessary preventive measures in accordance with certain regions and districts;
Implementation of all scales (including specialized) of engineer-geological, engineer-geodynamic and geo-ecological studies, for sustainable assimilation of the territory and reliable disposition of engineer objects and efficient management of geological environment.
Elaboration of hazardous geological risk zoning maps, with the scale of 1:50000, for ensuring safety of the population of Georgia and reliable functioning of engineer and other facilities;
Zoning of the territory of Georgia in accordance with frequency and intensity of hazardous geological processes;
Scientific assessment of results from natural disasters and change of geological environment, and their input into national and international databases;
Engineer-geological and geo-ecological examination of projects of big industrial objects to define the scale of possible impact over changes in environment on the whole territory of Georgia.
Engineer-geological studies of the roads, oil and gas pipelines, for elaboration of the projects of the hydro technical complexes;
Preparation of database on the geological disasters conditions, risks and changes of the geological environment, in time and spatial parameters;
Participation in preparation of engineer-geological conclusions in order to legalize land proportioned for engineer-industrial activities, in the frames of its competence under the established rule;
Implementation of engineer-geo-ecological and hydro geological assessment works for the objects chosen beforehand to be given minerals extracting license;
Arrangement of metrological maintenance for the measuring devices, necessary for monitoring over changes in geological environment;
Organizational maintenance of information management of the state minerals database. Creation of the state database – registration of mineral deposits and exposures, permanent update of state balance and cadastre database;
Recording and registration of all types of implemented and on-going industrial or scientific geological works, on the whole territory of Georgia, its territorial waters, continental shelf and special economical zone, in accordance with the legislation;
Certification of mineral deposits and exposures, creation of the cadastre and state balance (including digital version). Registration of minerals licensee holders and their reports submitted and inputting information about minerals into the state database. Preparation of geological conclusions about existence or none-existence of mineral deposits on the expected development site. Recording and registration of the mineral districts, given for the purposes not connected with mineral extraction. Preparation of geological information or/and conclusions for license seekers;
Economical assessment of certain types of Georgian minerals, identification quality of conformance with conjuncture of the global markets;
Ensuring permanent monitoring cycle over objects of hydro monitoring state network. Identification of ground water dynamics and resources changes, assessment of pollution quality data and input of the data into the relevant database;
Elaboration of preventive measurements for ground water resource and quality protection and their submission into relevant instances;
Participation in preparation of hydro geological conclusions on the land intended for civil-industrial purposes, in the frames of its competence.
